Setting in Motion a New Century of Leadership

Strategic Directions, 2014-2017
(Approved by ALISE Board, 4th May 2014)

Introduction

The Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) stands at the threshold of a new century as an association, aspiring to be a global leader.  At its 2015 conference, ALISE celebrated 100 years as a vibrant professional association, which began as the Association of American Library Schools.  The current name was adopted in 1983.  In its continued pursuit of excellence and leadership in library and information science education and scholarship, in 2013, the ALISE Board gathered membership input and conducted external and internal scans in order to draft its new three-year strategic plan.  ALISE members reviewed the draft and provided input on the ALISE electronic discussion board prior to the 2014 ALISE Conference or at the town hall meeting during the conference.

The ALISE Strategic Plan 2014-2017 addresses seven strategic directions, including effective teaching, member career success, robust research, membership enhancement, leadership in LIS education, membership expansion, and effective association management.  The plan strengthens the Association’s identity, service to its members and other stakeholders, and influence on the course of LIS education.  ALISE affirms its commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the ALISE Board welcomes the broad participation of its members in the successful implementation of its 2014-17 strategic plan.
