Job Description

The University of South Florida, School of Information, seeks qualified candidates to begin August 8, 2022, with preference given to candidates in the areas of Data Science or Technology. This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track), and we encourage applications from recent PhDs and ABDs who will successfully defend their dissertation by Aug 2022. The successful candidate will join our faculty in a collegial environment that promotes collaboration amongst faculty within the School and across the university community.

Job Duties

We seek a colleague who specializes in one or more of the following areas: Human-centered Data Science; Applied Data Science; Information Retrieval; Archives Management; Data Management; Academic Librarianship; Knowledge Organization; Human Dimensions of Information Technology (e.g. accessibility and diversity; data privacy/security; Human-Computer Interaction); Digital Humanities; Digital Libraries.
 

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in library and information science, data science, or a related discipline from an accredited institution; or evidence of completion of the Ph.D. by August 2022. Evidence of expertise in applying data science or technology, demonstrated ability to conduct independent and collaborative research. Must meet university criteria for the rank of Assistant Professor.

Preferred Qualifications:
A record of research in data science or information technology, including presentations, publications, and similar forms of scholarly engagement. Demonstrated ability to teach and advise graduate and undergraduate students. Research interests that connect to program objectives and extend current faculty interests and capabilities. Demonstrated ability to secure external funding.

Application reviews will begin immediately, with preference for the applicants submitting by January 11, 2022. The review process will continue until the position is filled. Appointment is expected to begin August 2022 (Fall 2022 semester).
