Job Description

The School of Information Science (SIS) in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky (UK) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level with an anticipated start date of Aug. 16, 2021.

Job Duties

Teaching responsibilities for this nine-month appointment include topics primarily in information retrieval and/or information technologies.

Faculty are expected to teach, advise students, maintain a personal research program, participate in professional activities, and serve on university committees.

Opportunities exist to work with doctoral students in the College’s interdisciplinary Ph.D. program.

 

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

Candidates are expected to hold an earned Ph.D. or be in ABD status in library science, information science, or a related field at the time of the interview. The Ph.D. is required by Aug. 16, 2021, for the successful candidate to hold the rank of assistant professor and begin the probationary period toward tenure.
 

Supplementation Information

The College of Communication and Information, a member of the iSchools consortium, is composed of two schools (The School of Journalism and Media, School of Information Science), two departments (Department of Communication, Department of Integrated Strategic Communication) and an interdisciplinary graduate program. Nearly 1,700 undergraduate majors and 350 graduate students are led by more than 80 full-time faculty, who also teach in the University’s core curriculum and serve students pursuing minors and certificates in the College. The College also houses UK’s independent student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel, and the defending national championship Intercollegiate Debate Team.
