What Do I Do? The ALISE 2021 Submission Guidelines

Dr. Yunseon Choi is co-chair of the ALISE Conference Proceedings. She is an Assistant Professor at Valdosta State University. Dr Choi earned her PhD from the University of Illinois. Her research interests encompass diverse aspects of knowledge organization, including analyzing big data in social media, metadata, ontologies, and linked data. Her work has appeared in various scholarly journals, including JASIS&T, The Library Quarterly, and Knowledge Organization, as well as popular outlets like ALISE, ASIS&T, iConference, and JCDL.

Dr. Meghan Harper is the Interim Director of the School of Information at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Dr Harper has served as the graduate coordinator of the Masters of Library and Information Science program, and coordinator of the K-12 School Library program and has taught courses in the area of youth services. Dr. Harper is the director of the Virginia Hamilton Multicultural Literature Conference, the longest running national conference of its kind.

Dr. Abebe Rorissa is Associate Professor & Associate Dean for Faculty Development, College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity, University at Albany. Prior to his current position, he worked in Ethiopia, Lesotho, and Namibia as a lecturer and practitioner. He has also consulted for academic institutions, national governments, and international organizations. He has published extensively in leading journals such as JASIS&T, Information Processing & Management, and Government Information Quarterly. He was a member of the Board of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) and its Executive Committee.

Dr. Lisa Hussey is the co-chair of the Juried Proposals and the Chair of the International Library Education SIG. She has been on the faculty at the School of Library and Information Science at Simmons University for 13 years. Dr Hussey teaches courses on Management and Leadership, User Services and Information Resources, Readers’ Advisory, Information Ethics, International & Comparative LIS, and Foundations of LIS. Her research interests include mentoring and identity in LIS, diversity and white privilege in LIS, management, and international & comparative LIS.

Dr. Africa S. Hands is co-chair of the ALISE Academy for the 2021 conference. She is an Assistant Professor of library science at East Carolina University. Dr Hands's current research agenda examines public libraries as an information resource to college bound patrons. This work stems from her experiences working in both higher education (admissions and academic advising) and public libraries. Her research also explores the experiences of first-generation students - both as users of academic libraries and as students and professionals in the LIS field. She is the author of Successfully Serving the College Bound (ALA Editions, 2015).

Dr. Renee F. Hill is Principal Lecturer, Diversity and Inclusion Officer, and Equity Administrator at the University of Maryland’s College of Information Studies. In this capacity, she teaches courses and provides guidance that prepare graduate students to become excellent information specialists.  

Renee earned a Bachelor's degree in Exceptional Student Education at Florida Atlantic University. Both her Master's and PhD were earned in Library and Information Studies at Florida State University. Renee is passionate about and committed to researching and teaching about issues that involve examining methods for increasing understanding of diversity issues in Library and Information Studies. Her research focuses on examining information needs and information access as they relate to diverse populations (e.g., members of various racial/ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities).

Dr. Ina Fourie is co-chair for the panel sessions. She is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Information Science at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She holds a doctorate in Information Science, and a post-graduate diploma in tertiary education. Her research focus includes information behaviour, information literacy, information services, and current awareness services. Currently she mostly focuses on affect and emotion and palliative care including work on cancer, pain and autoethnography, as well as participatory design.

Dr. Karen Snow is co-chair for the panel sessions. Dr Snow is an Associate Professor and the Ph.D. Program Director in the School of Information Studies at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois.  She teaches face-to-face and online in the areas of cataloging, classification, and metadata.  Her main areas of research interest are cataloging quality, ethics, and education.
