Rank will be determined at the time of hire commensurate with background and experience. Located in the city of Denver, DU is the oldest and largest independent university in the Rocky Mountain Region with high research activity and enrolls approximately 11,500 students in its undergraduate, graduate, and professional preparation programs. Denver is quickly becoming one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the U.S. Census data show that Denver’s population includes 11.1% Black or African American, 31.7% Hispanic or Latino, 2.8% Asian American, and approximately 1% Native American residents. Ruffatto Hall, a 65,000 square foot complex built in 2010 providing a flexible, innovative, and multidisciplinary learning environment. The LIS program offers a Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree and is one of several MCE academic programs which currently enrolls about 800 students in its 24 degree (MA/MLIS, EdS, and PhD), licensure, and certificate programs. More than 9,000 MCE graduates live throughout the U.S. and the world. The successful candidate will have a forward thinking and articulated research agenda and will be comfortable with collaboration in research and teaching projects with other faculty members in the Research Methods and Information Science (RMIS) Department, MCE, and DU. This position will play a strong role in teaching, research and service and in leading the proposed Research Data Management concentration of the MLIS degree. Applicants with expertise in a library or archive context with one or more of the defined areas will be considered: research data management, information systems, academic librarianship, or digital preservation. Assistant and Associate Professors also serve as academic advisers to assigned LIS students. All members of the LIS faculty participate in program and college committees and professional service as appropriate. There is an expectation for pursuing grants and other external funding opportunities. Job RequirementsAssistant Professor • An earned doctorate in information science, library science, or other related area with strong emphasis in information systems, research data management, and database technology or will have completed such a degree by the September 1, 2017 start date. • Candidates for Assistant Professor will be in the first one to six years of post-doctorate experience with a strong potential for future research • Demonstrated record of success in research and teaching. • Demonstrated commitment to or experience working with diverse populations. Associate Professor • PhD in information science, library science, or other related area with strong emphasis in information systems, research data management, and database technology. • Candidates for Associate Professor will be mid-career scholar teachers with a strong, established research record. If Associate rank is granted consideration for tenure will also occur at time of hire. • Demonstrated record of success in research and teaching. • Demonstrated commitment to or experience working with diverse populations.
