Job Description

The University of South Florida School of Information seeks qualified candidates to begin August 2023.

This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track), and we encourage applications from current doctoral candidates who will successfully defend their dissertation by Aug 2023.

The successful candidate will join our faculty in a collegial environment that promotes collaboration amongst faculty within the school and across the university community.

Job Duties

We seek a colleague who specializes in one or more of the following areas (but we are also open to other research interests if the right candidate should apply):

  • Academic Librarianship
  • Business Librarianship
  • Cataloging and Classification
  • Digital Humanities
  • Digital Libraries and Archives
  • Human Dimensions of Information Technology (e.g. accessibility and diversity; data privacy/security)
  • Library Services to Special Populations (e.g. older adults; youth)
  • Management of Libraries or Archives
  • Open Access
  • Social Media and Informatics

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

Required:

  • Successful completion of a doctoral degree in a field that is relevant to the candidate’s area of research and teaching by August 2023
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and collaborative research
  • Must meet university criteria for the rank of Assistant Professor

Preferred:

  • A record of research in the candidate’s area of specialization, including presentations, publications, and similar forms of scholarly engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and advise graduate and/or undergraduate students
  • Research interests that connect to program objectives and extend current faculty interests and capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to secure external funding

The USF School of Information (SI) is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, which consists of 23 academic departments and a number of highly collaborative and interdisciplinary centers and institutes. The School of Information enjoys a strong tradition of educating information professionals in a variety of settings. The School currently offers three degree programs: a M.A. in Library and Information Science, which has been continually accredited by the American Library Association since 1974; a STEM-based MS in Intelligence Studies, which offers concentrations in Cyber Intelligence and Strategic Intelligence; and a B.S. in Information Science with available concentrations in Data Science and Analytics, Information Security, Health Informatics, Web Development Technologies, and Intelligence Analysis.
