Candidate's Statement:
I believe that ALISE should strive to be the one professional organization to which all LIS educators and researchers belong. The ALISE board should advance this mission by working to meet the needs of its current members (both individual and institutional), by clearly and broadly articulating the value of ALISE, and by communicating, cooperating, and collaborating with other organizations of interest to its membership. 

I am willing to serve ALISE because I have a loyalty to the organization, I believe strongly in its purpose, and I am passionate about two of its core functions: faculty recruitment and faculty development. 

As an ALISE member since 1994, I have twice served as chair of the Council of Deans, Directors, and Program Chairs; organizer of the “Birds of a Feather” sessions at conference; chair of the memberships and the nominations committees; member of the centennial campaign, awards, and communications committees; liaison to the ALA Committee on Education; and as a member of the 2006 Task Force on Best Practices in LIS Education.

Biography
Stephen Bajjaly joined Wayne State University’s School of Information Sciences in August 2007. As associate dean and professor, Bajjaly is the school’s chief academic and administrative officer. He oversees the strategic direction of the school, leads its efforts to enhance teaching, scholarship and service, and directs the day-to-day operations.

Before joining Wayne State, Bajjaly spent 14 years on the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Library and Information Science where he taught information technology, web design and organizational management courses and led the development of the undergraduate program. He was the founding project director for MidNet, the local, nonprofit community network sponsored by the School, and served as chair of the University's Graduate Council, president of the South Carolina chapter of SLA, and on the board of the SC Association for Educational Technology.
