Candidate's Statement:
As a member of ALISE for more than a decade, I see ALISE moving to a more inclusive environment with international colleagues being more present in organizational initiatives and processes.

As a member of the ALISE Executive Board I will be committed to gathering intersecting committees together to build relationships to further member engagement, in alignment with ALISE Strategic Direction 2 which expands ALISE's vision as it "expands its membership base, enhances membership value to both individuals and institutions, and enriches member engagement." I envision the organization becoming more actively connected with sister organizations such as IFLA and CILIP as a step forward to solidifying international relationships and presence within LIS discourse.

Biography:

Greetings, my name is Dr. Vanessa Irvin and I am an associate professor with the Master of Library Science Program at East Carolina University. I am a career public librarian who transitioned into scholarly research, focusing on reference services, public librarianship, librarian professional development, and heritage-based local research practices. I received my master’s in Library and Information Science from Clarion University of PA and my doctorate in Reading/Writing/Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania. I am particularly interested in studying the evolution of librarian professional practices and how reference services have been impacted by emerging technologies. I am currently serving as Editor-in- Chief of the open access peer-reviewed journal, the International Journal of Information, Diversity, & Inclusion (IJIDI), which is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that publishes research on equity, diversity, and inclusion from library and information science scholars worldwide.
