Job Description

The Old Dominion University Darden College of Education and Professional Studies is inviting applications for two tenure track positions as Assistant/Associate Professors of Library Studies. Start date for the positions will be July 2022.

The ODU Master of Library and Information Studies is a new degree currently in initial candidacy for Accreditation with the American Library Association. Faculty are committed to growing a program with a national reputation for our commitment to leadership, social justice, and authentic practice. We currently offer students pathways in assessment & evaluation, school librarianship, youth services, and instructional librarianship preparing students for professional positions in libraries, archives and other information spaces. We invite applicants interested in building upon the program’s current strengths through contributions of innovative scholarship, curriculum, pedagogy, leadership and discovery.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include:
  1. Producing high quality research for publication in top-ranked journals;
  2. Teaching and developing graduate level, distance-education courses in librarianship and information studies;
  3. Seeking external funding opportunities to support scholarly activities, and;
  4. Engaging in program, University and national/international service. 

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

Required Qualifications are:
  1. An earned doctorate in library/information studies or related field by August 1, 2022
  2. Strong potential or history of research and scholarly activities, and;
  3. Demonstrated ability for excellent teaching.
Preferred Qualifications are:
  1. An MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program;
  2. A record of service and leadership in the library profession;
  3. A demonstrated commitment to diversity;
  4. The ability to work collaboratively;
  5. Experience with effective and innovative online, asynchronous instruction;
  6. A record of peer-reviewed publications and/or external grant experience, and;
  7. Interest and experience in research and teaching in new and emerging areas of library and information studies.
