Job Description

The School of Information (iSchool) at Florida State University seeks to fill two (2) nine-month tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2024, and continue until the positions are filled.

Job Duties

We are seeking faculty colleagues with interdisciplinary, sociotechnical systems research interests and the ability to teach in the general areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and/or data science. Additionally, candidates should have strong technical and analytic skills, such as expertise in AI, cloud computing, programming (Java, Python, etc.), digital libraries, mobile/web app development, and data analytics. Candidates should also be able to articulate a research agenda that fits within the broader research interests of the School and demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a highly interdisciplinary environment and actively seek external funding.

Successful applicants will be expected to teach at all levels, including courses in the school’s bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs. Experience teaching online, as well as face-to-face, is preferred. Faculty typically teach two courses per semester each academic year. All faculty members are expected to advise students, serve on School, College, and University committees, and be active in professional and academic organizations.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in information science, information science, information technology, or a cognate field.

The School of Information is one of three academic units within the College of Communication and Information at Florida State University. The FSU iSchool offers a Bachelor’s degree program with majors in Information Technology (IT) and Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT); Master’s degree programs in Information Technology and Information; a post-Master’s Specialist degree in Information; and a Ph.D. program in Information. The iSchool faculty also operate the eHealth Lab, iSensor Lab, and are founding partners in FSU’s Innovation Hub, an innovation center and fab lab/makerspace for teaching and research with technologies including virtual/augmented reality, 3D printing and 3D visualization. The School of Information began in 1926, was formally founded in 1947, and is nationally ranked among the top information science graduate schools in the country. The iSchool's Information Technology Masters' program is nationally ranked at #5 among IT programs, #4 among IT programs for veterans, and the ALA-accredited Master's in Information is ranked among U.S. News & World Report's “Best Graduate Programs in Library and Information Science” as 11th overall, 3rd in Youth Services, and 1st in School Library Media. School of Information faculty have been awarded over $60 million in federal, state, local, and foundation research grants, and maintain strong connections to the community through various information, literacy, and service initiatives. Funding has been received from NIH, IMLS, NSF, and the DOD as well as The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The McKnight Foundation, and others. iSchool faculty have strong collaborations with researchers in the College of Medicine, College of Social Work, College of Nursing, College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, and College of Arts and Sciences.
