Job Description

The School of Information Studies (SIS) in the College of Human Sciences & Education at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor from candidates with a demonstrated potential for research and teaching in the area of public libraries. This is a nine-month academic appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2024. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Job Duties

Responsibilities:
  • Engage in scholarly research in the appropriate area leading to publication in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
  • Seek appropriate grant funding for such research.
  • Teach core courses for the MLIS and electives related to public libraries.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Actively assist with student recruitment.
  • Participate in service activities pertaining to the mission of the School, the College, and the University.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in LIS or related field and an MLIS or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and publication.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in teaching graduate level courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated success in acquiring research grants.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in teaching asynchronous online courses at the graduate level.
  • Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching connects public libraries to one or more of the following areas, which align with LSU’s research priorities:
    • Food Security/Food Justice, Rural Library Support of Agricultural Programs/Communities
    • Consumer Health Librarianship, Community Health Information Services and Outreach
    • Information/Data Security and Privacy, Information Governance
    • Sustainable Practices for Libraries and Cultural Heritage Institutions.

The School and College:

The School of Information Studies is part of the College of Human Sciences & Education (CHSE), which also includes the School of Education, the School of Kinesiology, the School of Leadership & Human Resource Development, the School of Social Work, and the University Laboratory School. These combined schools offer 8 undergraduate degree programs, 18 graduate programs, and 7 online graduate degree and/or certificate programs, enrolling more than 1,900 undergraduate and 1,120 graduate students.
