Assistant Professor in Social Informatics Department/CollegeSchool of Information DatesOpening Date: 09/20/2023 Job DescriptionThe School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for up to two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to start in Fall 2024. Candidates will be expected to conduct innovative and impactful research and to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in Social Informatics, one of the six concentrations in our new undergraduate informatics degree program which has synergies with other concentrations, such as Social Justice Informatics, User Experience Design, and Health Informatics. We are particularly interested in outstanding scholars who have expertise that spans more than one concentration or focuses on the intersections of these concentrations with a specific focus on social behavior, organizations, and/or society. Successful candidates will address the human and/or societal implications of information and technology. Candidates focused on human-centered design and use of information technology for human benefit, social good, and/or social justice in local and global contexts will fit well within the culture of our school and are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/SkillsCandidates must hold a doctoral degree in a field that is relevant to their area of research and teaching.Applications should make a compelling case for the intellectual contribution and merit of their research agenda. Candidates are encouraged to identify the research communities in which they are developing membership and to which their research trajectory will contribute. In addition to scholarly publications, the school values research contributions via artifacts (e.g., datasets, software, exhibits, standards); candidates with these contributions are encouraged to highlight the artifacts created and the intellectual contributions made by this work. Similarly, the school values direct impact via translational research; candidates with these contributions are encouraged to highlight the communities with which they work and the potential broader impacts of the work.
