Job Description

The School of Information at the University of South Florida seeks to fill two nine-month, full-time, non-tenure-earning, instructional faculty positions. A doctorate or master's degree in Information Science or related discipline with specialty areas in Information Security, Intelligence Studies, or Data Science is required.

Job Duties

Successful candidates will provide need to be able to accomplish the following goals:
  • Provide an engaging, attentive and effective online instruction for students in the iSchool’s B.S. in Information Science (BSIS) program, teaching four course sections per semester (not necessarily four different courses).
  • Expertise and experience in programming (particularly Python and Java) and in any of the BSIS core courses is most welcome, including Information Behaviors, IT Concepts for Information Professionals, Information Ethics and Policy, or Introduction to Information Science.
  • The ability to teach specialized courses in the areas of Information Security or Data Science and Analytics would align well with the needs of this growing program. Refining, updating and developing courses in the instructor’s areas of expertise.
  • Actively participate in substantive service activities such as Committees and shared governance for the School of Information, College of Arts and Sciences and/or the University.
  • Engage with faculty colleagues and School/Program leadership in a way that contributes to the iSchool’s positive, supportive, collegial environment.


Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A doctorate or master's degree in Information Science or related discipline with specialty areas in Information Security, Intelligence Studies, or Data Science is required.
  • For candidates applying for the Assistant Professor of Instruction, a doctorate is required.
  • For candidates applying for the Assistant Instructor, a Masters degree is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to applicants who can teach courses in Information Behaviors, IT Concepts for Information Professionals, or Information Ethics and to those who specialize in Information Security, Intelligence Studies, or Data Science

About School of Information:

The USF School of Information (SI) is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, which consists of 23 academic departments and a number of highly collaborative and interdisciplinary centers and institutes. The School of Information enjoys a strong tradition of educating information professionals in a variety of settings. The School currently offers three degree programs: a M.A. in Library and Information Science, which has been continually accredited by the American Library Association since 1974; a STEM-based M.S. in Intelligence Studies, which offers concentrations in Cyber Intelligence and Strategic Intelligence; and a B.S. in Information Science with available concentrations in Data Science and Analytics, Information Security, Health Informatics, Web Development Technologies, and Intelligence Analysis.
