Talking about Technology: Who’s in the Driver’s Seat?- LIS Pedagogy Chat
Friday, November 08, 2024, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT
Category: LIS Pedagogy Chat

As technology continues to take on increasingly automated and human-like qualities, especially in the form of generative artificial intelligence, it is important for librarians to consider to whom and to what they attribute agency in their instruction and how this shapes students’ understanding of these technologies. Critical information literacy practice has often relied on constructivist views of information that recognize its social and historical context to help students interrogate the ways information is created, used, and shared. This session will introduce strategies for adopting a similar perspective to new technologies that can help us become more aware of how technological artifacts, human users, and social context interact to shape our understandings of the world.
