Recognizing Information Literacy as a Discipline- LIS Pedagogy Chat
Friday, September 27, 2024, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT
Category: LIS Pedagogy Chat

The idea that information literacy is a discipline has been explored by the British research team of Sheila Webber and Bill Johnston through a series of articles beginning in 1999. It may be difficult to distinguish information literacy as a discipline because of its ‘transdisciplinary’ nature, meaning that its practices appear within other disciplines, such as composition, chemistry, marketing, and so forth. In this conversation, we will reflect on how information literacy teaching and teacher preparation may change on higher education campuses if information literacy is widely recognized as a discipline.
