This webinar features a discussion about leadership for sustainable LIS programs from two distinct perspectives. Lisa O'Connor, a brand new program chair, discusses preparing for and stepping into one's first leadership role, while Ken Haycock discusses lessons learned from experience throughout a long career managing several highly successful programs. This session will provide attendees with both a feel for what it's like to answer the call to lead as well as help them formulate a vision for managing a successful program.
Lisa O'Connor is entering her second year as Chair at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She formerly taught at the University of Kentucky for 12 years and was a practicing academic librarian for 10 years. She teaches human information behavior and information literacy. She has published research on information seeking and the interaction of information and financial literacy. She earned her MLIS from the University of South Carolina and her Ph.D. in the Cultural Foundations of Education from Kent State University.
Ken Haycock has led three different graduate schools. British Columbia developed a First Nations concentration, a dual MLIS/MAS program, a multidisciplinary MA in children's literature and a Ph.D. program. San Jose grew to 3,000 graduate students in 14 countries while receiving recognition for quality assurance. Southern California was the first new LIS program in a research institution in decades, the first distance only, the first in a School of Business, achieving full accreditation in record time.
