Job Description

The Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing – Indianapolis invites applications for one full‐time lecturer‐track faculty position in the Department of Library and Information Science. The appointment will begin August 1, 2022 at the Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus.  
This appointment is annually renewable, based upon satisfactory performance.  This is a 10‐ month appointment, with opportunity to teach in the summer months as well.
A committed educator is sought to join our department. We are interested in candidates with one or more of the following areas of expertise:

  • Information representation: cataloging, metadata
  • Digital resources/collections management
  • Technology (user experience // information organization // information systems design)
Candidates must demonstrate effective teaching in an online environment and several years of professional (industry) experience in the area of expertise, a deep understanding of career opportunities in the information professions, and a passion for graduate student mentoring and success. Ideal candidates will also shape their teaching in ways that leverage the unique strengths of the School of Informatics and Computing and the IUPUI campus, including its interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and commitment to service and community engagement.

Job Duties

Full‐time lecturer‐track faculty commit to a balanced workload of teaching and service, which includes:

  • Teaching graduate courses in the LIS department; typically, four course section/equivalents per semester and 3‐5 different courses per academic year; supervise independent study.
  • Contribute to course and curriculum development and innovative pedagogical approaches.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students.
  • Commit to service at the department, school and campus level, as well as to the professional community.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

  • ALA‐accredited MLS/MLIS required
  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Knowledge of state‐of‐the‐art practice and theory in the areas of teaching
  • Effective teaching at the graduate level, and ability to adapt and diversify pedagogy for changing methodologies
