Job Description

The Department of Information Science in the Graduate School of Education, University at Buffalo, the State University of New York (SUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to start in Fall 2024. The position is a joint appointment with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with a tenure home in Information Science. With a long history of research excellence, innovative teaching, collaboration and collegiality, and emphasis on equity, social responsibility and justice, our departments are looking for a colleague who will contribute expertise in the area of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), which may include human-information interaction, human factors in technology, intelligent information interfaces, information visualization, sociotechnical systems, human-robot interaction, virtual reality and augmented reality, fair and responsible artificial intelligence, and other interrelated areas.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include:
  • Maintain an active and productive research agenda commensurate with a Research 1 tenure-track faculty appointment
  • Seek external grant funding
  • Teach a total of four courses each year, two within the Department of Information Science and two within the Department of Computer Science
  • Advise Information Science master’s and Ph.D. students
  • Participate in professional activities and serving on department, school, and university committees

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

Required Qualifications:
  • A doctorate degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or related field at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Research agenda with potential for acquiring external funding
  • Published research or scholarship
  • Online teaching experience or interest
  • Experience or interest in multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Experience working effectively with racially minoritized students
