Dr. Nadia Caidi is a faculty member at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto, Canada. Her research focuses on human information behaviour and information policy. Her contributions aim to inform and promote a critical LIS lens and a public interest approach to the information fields. She was the 2016 President of the International Association for Information Science & Technology. In 2019, ALISE awarded her the Pratt-Severn Faculty Innovation Award.
Dr. Keren Dali is Assistant Professor at the Research Methods & Information Science Dept., University of Denver. An award-winning researcher and educator, Keren focuses on workplace equity for people with disabilities, the intersection of social work and LIS, and immigrant reading practices in her research and teaching. After serving as Editor-in-Chief of the IJIDI, she now serves as its Associate Editor and as an editorial board member for JELIS, JoLIS, and the Library Quarterly.
Dr. Shimelis Assefa is Associate Professor in the department of Research Methods and Information Science at the University of Denver. Dr. Assefa examines the large body of scholarship in the Science of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). One of his research agenda is learning technologies – around which he has published his research work and presented at national and international conferences. His course – Teaching & Learning with Technology – is widely offered across the college. |

Dr. Karen Fisher is a Professor at the University of Washington, and a Design Ethnographer for UNHCR Jordan. Her work focuses on innovation and resilience in the Arab world. UN missions address socio-technical problems for health, education, and entrepreneurship. Her book, “Za’atari: Food & Culture from the Syrian People of Za’atari Camp” is based on co-cooking/design with 2000 Syrians over 4 years to preserve indigenous knowledge and culture. 
Dr. Spencer Lilley is an Associate Professor in the School of Māori Knowledge - Te Pūtahi a Toi at Massey University, New Zealand. A former library and information professional, his research interests focus on Indigenous information. He is recognised internationally for his advocacy for Indigenisation of the LIM professions.Workplace Equity

Dr. Briony Birdi is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Librarianship at the Information School, University of Sheffield, UK, teaching campus-based and distance learning Masters and PhD students about public and youth libraries, social justice and diversity. She is also the Co-Director of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion for the faculty of Social Sciences. 
Dr. Clayton A. Copeland is on faculty at the iSchool, University of South Carolina. She is Director of the Laboratory for Leadership in Equity and Diversity (LLEAD) and helps manage the Linda Lucas Walling Collection for Universal Access. Her research, teaching, and service focus on equity of access to information for underserved populations, Universal Design, Universal Access. Her work explores equity, access, and inclusion pertaining to the physical environment, the virtual environment, and interactions among library patrons and staff. 
Dr. Rhonda McEwen is Canada Research Chair in Tactile Interfaces, Communication and Cognition at the Univ. of Toronto. She examines the social and cognitive effects of technologies in children and adults across the user spectrum, including those diagnosed with communication and learning disorders using a range of innovative and experimental techniques. 
Dr. Kim M. Thompson is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor at the University of South Carolina, College of Information and Communications. Current projects include analysis of inclusive library job ads, ableism in the workplace, and ways to set diversity and inclusion more deeply into the LIS curriculum. Scholarly Communication

Brady Lund is a PhD student at Emporia State University (Kansas, USA). He received his master of library science degree from Emporia State and a bachelor's of communication sciences and disorders from Wichita State University. His research and areas of professional interest include library employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, informetrics and data analytics, and social and educational informatics. Brady has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications in major LIS journals and is active in the ALISE “Disabilities in LIS” SIG. 
Dr. Javed Mostafa is Professor at the Information Science & Biomedical Research Imaging Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Current research revolves around data science and informatics and the STEM pipeline for advanced education in biomedical and health informatics. Javed is the immediate past-Editor of the Journal of the Association for Information Science & Technology (JASIST). 
Dr. Tonia Sutherland is assistant professor in the Department of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa where she is also the director of the SOURCE Hawaiʻi research and community engagement lab. Her work critically examines the analog histories of modern information and communication technologies; addresses trends of racialized violence in 21st century digital cultures; and interrogates issues of race, ritual, and embodiment in archival and digital spaces.
About the Session

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are an inseparable part of scholarship, professional practice, and education of information professionals. Hence, in the field of information, and in knowledge societies in general, cultivating a diversity mindset is essential. At this ALISE Academy session, we bring together an international team of scholars and practitioners who can lend insights into ways of developing this mindset. They will lead a conversation on contributions of DEI to sustainable change and effective leadership and bring their personal and professional experiences to bear on addressing the following areas 1) Leadership in Scholarly Communication; 2) Leadership in Teaching and Pedagogy; and 3) Leadership in Creating Equitable Workplaces. This will allow Academy participants to engage with DEI questions not as a standalone topic, but as an integral part of professional and scholarly activities that hold interest to both ALISE and ASIST members.

Payment is required to complete registration. Payment may be made via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or via check (payable to ALISE). Payments must be in US dollars and free of bank charges.

Cancellations
All cancellations must be submitted in writing via email to the ALISE office at [email protected]. Cancellations received before 11:59 pm ET on September 15, 2020, are subject to a $10 fee. After September 15, 2020, ALISE will provide refunds only for documented medical emergencies. Refunds will be processed within 6 weeks after the conference.

Photographs and videos of attendees may be taken during ALISE virtual programs. By registering for an ALISE program, you are giving ALISE permission to take your photograph or video and use it with or without your knowledge and permission on ALISE promotional material, including but not limited to, our newsletters and conference materials, social media, publications, and our website.
Confirmations
