The Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) is seeking applications from individuals to assume the position of Editor-Designate of its official quarterly, refereed journal, Journal of Education for Library and Information Science (JELIS). The Editor will build on the success of the present editors and will lead in the advancement of knowledge by working with the Editorial Board and University of Toronto Press. The incoming Editor will have the unique opportunity to shape the literature of library and information science education. The new Editor will assume responsibilities with Issue #1, 2019. The initial term of service is three years, with the possibility of renewal. The deadline for application is January 19, 2018. ALISE is open to applications from two individuals who would like to work as co-editors.

Qualifications:

The ALISE Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it has established an agreement with the Rowman & Littlefield Publishing group to co-publish the ALISE book series. The book series is a professionally relevant, scholarly sound series of publications on the historic, contemporary, and future roles, values and practices of LIS education and research. It focuses on pedagogical experimentation and innovations, research discovery and frontiers, theoretical advancement, and other related topics of interest to the ALISE community. 

ALISE is seeking a Book Series Editor to work with Rowman & Littlefield to publish the ALISE book series.

1. What is your status as a member of the Information Professions? PhD student, Professor, etc. What is your institutional affiliation?
I am affiliated with the University of Denver, Business School for my PhD study.

2. As a professional association, ALISE thrives as its members thrive. What do you wish the ALISE members to know about you and your contribution to the profession and association – e.g., what are your research interests, what do you bring to the profession?
Information professionals’ responsibilities have been transformed by information and communication technology (ICT) in the past few decades. In a library context, most, if not all operations are supported by information systems. My aspiration is to apply the rigors of Management of Information Systems discipline to Library and Information Science via research, teaching, and leadership. With deeper understanding of the roles information technologies play in the libraries, information professionals can maximize the impact technologies can bring to mission.

ALISE is an essential voice for Library and Information Science educators and scholars.

5. Describe your reason(s) for joining ALISE, and/or what membership benefits are you looking forward to receiving?
I am interested in developing research-driven solutions for teaching and leadership in academic libraries and look forward to keeping current with developing pedagogy for Library and Information Science education through ALISE.

In light of events in several countries that were instigated by values that are contrary to the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE), the ALISE Board of Directors reaffirms its commitment to, and promotion of, diversity, equality, and inclusion in the library and information science (LIS) education and professional community, and condemns racism, hate, bigotry, and violence.

Diversity and inclusion are core elements of the LIS curriculum. To help LIS instructors teach and promote diversity, equality, and inclusion in their curriculum, we have compiled a list of recent works. This list is intended to serve as a living document. We encourage LIS educators, professionals, and students to use these resources in relevant learning settings to further promote these values within the communities we serve.  

The 2017 Statistical Reports are now available! This annual report on LIS education compiles, analyzes, interprets, and reports statistical information about LIS programs offered by ALISE member schools. These reports are offered in a new excel format. ALISE members receive free access to the statistical reports. If you are not a member, you can purchase the report for $135. Learn more.

ALISE recognizes and supports excellence and innovation in teaching and research through its awards and grants program.

Submissions/nominations are now being accepted for ALISE awards, grants and research competitions. There are three seperate award/grant categories, with deadlines ranging from June 30 - October 1st. More information is located on our ALISE Award/Grants webpage, which includes an online submission/nomination form. Please review the submission requirements thoroughly before beginning the submission process.

The ALISE Board of Directors is seeking applications for the next ALISE Statistical Data Manager. The manager is responsible for compiling the annual ALISE Statistical Report. We would like to acknowledge the years of dedicated service that the faculty and staff at the University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies have provided in compiling the report.

The ALISE Statistical Report, first published in 1980, records the current state of LIS education programs at ALISE member schools. The report contains compiled data on faculty, students, curricula, school income/expenditures, and continuing education. These data are invaluable for supporting program self-studies and providing research data on LIS education.
