Job Description

The Department of Educational Leadership and Human Development at University of Central Missouri invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of library science. The successful candidate must have earned a doctorate in library science or a closely related field (ABD considered) and demonstrate evidence of effective teaching and scholarship with experience or expertise in librarianship. The position carries teaching, research, and service responsibilities. Courses are delivered online and program offerings include a Master of Science in library science, an Education Specialist Degree in library science, and Missouri school library certification. Opportunities for teaching in the summer with additional compensation are available. The library science program is housed in the Department of Educational Leadership and Human Development and offers opportunities for collaborative interdisciplinary research and publication. The program’s focus is to prepare leaders who promote the multiple literacies (print, media, technological, and scientific) that accompany 21st century librarianship. Our program is CAEP accredited, nationally recognized by the American Association of School Librarians, and preparing to submit for precandidacy status for American Library Association accreditation. Location: The University of Central Missouri (www.ucmo.edu) is located in Warrensburg, Missouri, and is a comprehensive, regional university with an emphasis in teacher education and a state-wide mission in applied sciences and technologies. Job Duties

Responsibilities: Teach graduate courses in library science and information services. The preferred candidate will have the ability to utilize technology and teach online courses. The position involves scholarly activity and professional service to the department, university, and professional organizations. Scholarly activities such as presentations, grants, and publications are necessary for promotion and tenure. Summer teaching is optional.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

An earned doctorate in library science, information science, or a related field at time of hire (ABD considered). Candidates should provide evidence of developing a program of research, effectiveness in teaching, engagement in service or outreach including the ability to advance UCMs commitment to diversity, excellent team collaboration skills, competency in instructional technology and online instruction, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
