The iFederation is deeply concerned about the recent executive order issued by the Trump administration, which calls for the elimination of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This decision poses a significant threat to the global community of information professionals, researchers, and the public who rely on the vital services provided by IMLS.

IMLS has been a cornerstone in supporting libraries and museums in all communities large and small across the United States, fostering innovation, education, and cultural preservation. Every person in the U.S. will be impacted as their public libraries and state associations lose important funding support. Furthermore, IMLS has been instrumental in providing funding support for Native Hawaiian and Tribal Libraries, which now face an existential threat by this loss of support.

Protect Library Funding - Reject the Executive Order Targeting IMLS

Late on Friday, March 14, President Trump issued an executive order attempting to dismantle the only federal agency dedicated to funding library services, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Millions of people rely every day on library services and programs supported by IMLS. Now we need YOU to show up for our libraries. The ALISE Statistical Report presents an overview of the current state of library and information science education in the US and Canada and highlights several notable trends the data exhibit over time. ALISE annually collects data from its institutional members in these categories: faculty and staff, students, curriculum, and income and expenditures. The data upon which this statistical report is based were collected in fall 2023.

Join us for the inaugural in-person/virtual Information Science Summit entitled, Innovation and Trends in Information Science - Practice, Research, and LIS Education taking place on Friday October 28, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EDT at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown Hotel.

The Summit is co-hosted by three organizations -  ASIS&T, ALISE & the iSchools Organization, and sponsored by SLA along with the SJSU, Simmons, and Syracuse iSchools. Due to the generosity of these sponsors, registration is completely free for in-person member attendees, including a complimentary networking lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Registration for virtual attendees will be $100.00 for regular members and $50 for students.
